Day 2: On May 1st, Labor day, we had plans to go to Tsongo lake and Nathula pass. India-China trade for the season was suppose to open that very day. Through great effort we had procured permits for ourselves but the weather didn’t permit us to travel the last 6 km to Nathula pass. At 14000+ ft Nathu la is one of the highest motorable passes in the world and an important trade post between India and China. Although we couldn’t go right up to the pass, we got to see lots of snow, a frozen lake at 12000+ ft, highest ATM in the country and Tsongo lake. I also witnessed my first ever snowfall. Oh we also used a toilet at 12000+ ft set in the middle of snow. We had to wade our way in through the snow. Here are some pics:
