Recently we went for a vacation to the North-East and spent a full 4 days in the wonderful city of Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim in the first week of May. This year the weather was such that the mornings would be clear and as the afternoon progressed the sky would get overcast and by 3, it would be pouring. Chief Minister, Pawan Chamling has done a great job in making the city tourist friendly. There are fenced walkways (footpaths), all over the city. MG road market has been developed as a world class market with benches, traffic free road and souvenir shops. There is a tourist information center bang at the entrance of the market. The people manning the counters are mostly friendly and forthcoming in helping tourists frame their itineraries. Treks, helicopter rides, white water rafting, paragliding, you just name it and they have got it. The surroundings of the city are drenched in green. Four days passed in a jiffy. We have returned refreshed and with lot of memories.
Day 1: In our itineraries, the first day is usually reserved for local sightseeing. We went to Hanuman Tok, Ganesh Tok, Flower show, Tashi view point, Bakhtang falls, Rumtek monastry, Namgyal Institute of Tibetology, Stupa, the Ropeway and finally, the market at MG Road.
